Cody Summer BBQ

You are invited to join the Social Committee at Frimley Lodge Park on Sunday 6th July for a picnic.  We will be setting up from 11am and have the site all afternoon.

We will have access to a BBQ, the miniature railway will be running and we will be organising various games for those that are keen.  So please bring along a picnic, if you want to BBQ anything we will have a BBQ on-site and it would be lovely to have as many of you join us as are free that weekend. It's a great site near the Basingstoke canal and there's plenty of space for dog walking etc.

A Cheese & Wine evening where current and ex Members or anyone who has been involved in the society can reminisce. Please bring all your old show photos etc for an evening of nostalgia & Singing!

Halloween Party

Graham and Wayne are offering their house and garden (marquee if wet), for a spooky Halloween Party on Sat. 26th October at 7.30pm. They will supply the hotdogs if you will bring something to drink and something for the table.

 

There will be a cauldron in which to put your donations. Should be a really fun evening, so please be generous, and the fund raising committee thank them for their generosity.

 

Spaces are limited to 70, so please let them know soonest.

Pirates of Penzance’ – 27th September – 1st October 2011

A meeting will be held at Velmead Junior School, Velmead Road, Fleet, Hampshire on Tuesday, 5th April 2011 starting at 8pm where June will talk through the characters and audition pieces. Paul will then go through the music audition pieces. On Thursday, 7th April 2011 there will be a further meeting held at 8pm. April will set the dance audition from 9pm.

The cast auditions will take place from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, 10th April 2011 at the above venue. Audition material will be available at Jesus Christ Superstar rehearsals and during show week. Please also see list of characterizations and audition pieces.

New member chorus auditions will take place at approximately 9:30pm after the first rehearsal on Tuesday, 12th April. The libretto score will be available for a fee of £2. The vocal score will be available for loan, but please bring your cheque book to this rehearsal as a deposit of £25 will be required before music scores are issued. Your uncashed cheque will be returned to you at the end of the rehearsal season on safe return of your book.

1920's Garden Tea Party

To reflect our 90th Anniversary we will be hosting a 1920’s style garden tea party, complete with cucumber sandwiches et al, at Paul & Shirley Tickner’s house (in Fleet, near our rehearsal venue) on Saturday 14th May from 2.30pm until 6.30pm. You are all invited to wear your glad rags (think Downton Abbey ladies and gents!), take in the lovely waterside location, the grand marquee and partake of a range of tea, cakes and a glass of bubbly. There will be a small entry fee to cover costs and again we very much look forward to you joining us.

The Full Monty calendarFull Monty Calendar

The cast & crew of our next production, The Full Monty, have created a "Calendar Girls" style calendar with a proportion of the proceeds going to Frimley Park Hospital towards the fund to buy a flexible cystoscope for early detection of bladder cancer. The calendar will be on sale during performances.

We have just received a letter from John Barnes our NODA South East Regional Councillor, to advise us that Cody has come 1st in the NODA South East Programme Competition for 2009/10 with 'Taking the Mick-a-Doo'. We are also joint runner up with 'Fiddler on the Roof'. The awards are to be presented at the Regional Conference on 10th July at The Mandolay Hotel, Guildford.

The winning programme will go forward for inclusion in the NODA National Programme competition, the results of which are announced at the NODA National Conference being held on 24 & 25 September in Torquay.

NODA AWARD!

I’m very pleased to inform you all that, at the Dinner Dance last night, Betty Haslam our NODA Representative announced that we are to be awarded a NODA Accolade of Excellence for our production of Fiddler on The Roof. This is terrific news, well done to everyone that was involved. It is wonderful to receive formal recognition for such a great show.

Also well done and thanks to everyone involved in the Phyllis Tuckwell event in Farnham on Saturday. I gather it went very well and attracted a lot of interest.

This event will take place on Saturday May 22nd, 2010 at North Hants Golf Club, Fleet.

We have secured a fantastic band for the event called Katchfraze who will be providing the entertainment and the North Hants Golf Club is a superb setting which we used two years ago and was a great success.

We do have limited spaces so to ensure that you register your interest please send an email to social@codymusical.co.uk and we will add you to those who have already registered. The cost to attend the dinner dance is £35 per person which is a subsidised rate.

We’d be delighted if you could join us and hope that you’ll enjoy the chance to get the glad rags out and enjoy the excellent food, good company, entertaining speeches and great music that we have on offer.

For our 2009 dinner dance we have secured a fabulous venue, with a great live band, and what’s more we’re able to bring you this at a lower price than previous years (many thanks to Laura, Kelly & family for facilitating this great offer).

As an added twist this year, if you would like to you are welcome to attend in disguise (with a mask) to add a touch of Venetian flair!

Many congratulations on Annie. I hear by all accounts it was a great success.

I just wanted to say an enormous thank you for allowing the NSPCC/ChildLine to benefit from the bucket collections. I am pleased to say that a fantastic £1087.50 was raised to help vulnerable children and their families which is a wonderful result.

The collectors also wanted me to pass on their thanks to you for putting the buckets out for the Saturday matinee. I will write and thank you more formally but just wanted to pass on the good news.

Dear Members,

At the AGM 2008, 'The Mikado' was voted in for the September show 2009. Our Musical Director for this show will be Paul Tickner, and he said at the time, that rather than the Company spending a very large sum of money hiring the Australian version, he would rework the score to give it a more up to date feel and sound. The production team have met and discussed this with much enthusiasm. The first thing we needed to do was to find a title. So, the Company will now be performing 'Taking the Mick-a-doo', a show loosely based on 'The Mikado' by W S Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. All the original music and characters will be the same, but some words may be changed to reflect the new sound of the music. We hope to add one more female part, possibly called Pea-kin,(sometimes called duck!), and introduce more dancing. We have all looked at many different productions, both traditional and modern, and hope that we can come up with a unique version that you will all enjoy.

The auditions will be 2–6pm on Sunday 19th April 2009. Audition material will be available 'Annie' show week and I will be making available the libretto soon for a charge of £2 per copy. Hopefully we can borrow the scores from a library at no cost.

The first three rehearsals will be as follows:

  • Tuesday 7th April, when we will meet for a general discussion and a sing
  • Tuesday 14th April for singing, with new member’s auditions at the end of evening
  • Thursday 16th April to discuss and sing through the audition pieces.

Paul will be holding a 'drumming' workshop at some point, as he would like to open the show with massed drums. Girls as well as boys to be involved. This will not stop any girl from auditioning for a principal part, as any girls will be dressed as men and will not be expected to sing the opening chorus, which is a men only number. More from Paul at a later date.

A rehearsal schedule should be available by the time we start rehearsals. As there are no children in this next show, all these rehearsals and the ones following will be from 8–10pm. A prompt start will be made, so please be there on time.

We do hope you will join us and please if you have any ideas that you think will work to add to the fun, please tell us. We might listen!!! Only joking!!

Cody's Christmas

Father Christmas and his Elves would like to welcome you all to an evening of good old fashioned fun & Christmas Cheer - "Cody" style!!!

Nominal fee of £3.00 for adults, £1.50 for children, payable on the door. Mulled wine, soft drinks and other christmas goodies included, please feel free to bring a bottle of your favourite tipple as well.

Fleet Festivities

A BIG THANKYOU to everyone who gave up their time yesterday to join us on our stand to promote ANNIE. Well over 1100 ANNIE flyers were distributed to the hoardes of families who traversed Fleet on a relatively mild, dry evening.Santa and Annie

Attached are some photos from the evening- Fern (as Annie) turned on the Fleet Christmas lights together with Father Christmas and Elvis (slightly out of the picture). Her voice boomed out over the Fleet tannoys advertising Annie- well done Fern! Pity Elvis took so long in singing his numbers, you missed out on singing 'Tomorrow'..

Pulling the switches, turned on the Fleet Rd Christmas lights, the giant Christmas Tree's lights in Guerka Square and set off the magnificent fireworks display in the sky above.

A big well done girls for dressing up and helping- you made a really big impact and let's hope that many will come and see you. My last thanks goes to Robert and James for the poster, the setting up of the stall and giving up nearly 7 hours of time in the cold- so busy, we didn't even have time to have a cup of tea!

We are also running a free prize draw of the big cuddly teddy who will appear on stage with us. Anyone who buys tickets via the Cody Box Office is eligible and the lucky name will be announced on February 23rd. The teddy can be collected from March 28th after the Saturday night show!

Christmas Raffle: (Thu 18th Dec)

In keeping with tradition we will be holding the ever-popular Christmas Raffle. For those of you who are new to the society every year we have a raffle during the last rehearsal before Christmas. "Annie" Parents and children are also welcome to join us - and the social committee will be providing free refreshments for all (glass of wine for adults, nibbles, squash for children) from 8.30-9.00 p.m. (bear in mind that this is a rehearsal night, so if you arrive whilst we’re still rehearsing you are welcome to watch, but please keep the noise down!).

Venue: Velmead Junior School

This year the Raffle takes place after rehearsal on Thursday 18th December with the main draw taking place at around 9 p.m. Tickets are £1 per strip and will be on sale throughout the evening. We normally have a large array of prizes including whisky, Port, wine, chocolates, festive goodies, vouchers etc.

Please be aware that we’re holding an extra special children’s tombola this year, so we would love them to stay for a drink and nibbles, we may start this a little earlier as the kids should be finished around 8.30pm.

For new members - we usually take this opportunity to exchange Christmas cards as well so if you want to save on some postage now is your chance! Just look out for the big table covered in envelopes!

60's & 70' Karaoke

Our next social event is a 60’s and 70’s Karaoke evening on the 1st November at Fleet Football Club. This should be great fun and is open to all, members, friends, friends of friends...

It’s going to be a great evening but please remember it’s all needs to be booked and paid for in advance. Please see Lucy or Lisa at rehearsals to book and pay, or contact the Social Committee. Please do bring your friends and don’t forget that food is available from a local chippy but we will be placing the order that afternoon so again, we need to have it ordered and paid for in advance.

Audition Results for "Annie"

A big thankyou from the Audition Committee to all who auditioned for 'Annie'. With much talent to choose from, the Audition Committee were given a very tough task to decide the cast. Those who are not selected, we sincerely hope will continue to participate as chorus members and will be prime candidates for the minor roles yet to be cast, some of which will need to be auditioned at a later date and some which will be allocated to chorus members.

After last Saturday and this Sunday's auditions we now have a great cast and can look forward to an exciting rehearsal season.

Hello All,
Over the weekend, I attended the annual NODA Award ceremony which was held this year at Grayshott, Hampshire. This year, we excelled ourselves - picking up no less than four awards (last year's haul was three). The awards were:

I'd like to point out that no other society or group picked up more than one award - so to come away with FOUR really does show the standards we are currently attaining in our productions. So, yet again Cody Musical Theatre Company shows its class. Well done to everybody. Eric

We have received 2 further NODA awards for the South East Region Deluxe Programme Competition - 1st place for our 'HMS Pinafore' programme, 2nd place for our 'Oh What a Lovely War ' programme.

Daniel Boys - Any Dream Will Do - JosephHot news:
One of our 'old boys', Daniel Boys (pardon the pun), is in the final 12 of Any Dream Will Do, the BBC1 show to find a new cast for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. A fabulous first live show tonight, with a superb performance from Daniel - the judges verdict: "Daniel has by far a way the best voice in the competition"

Daniel performed with our society in a number of shows in the late 90s before embarking on his professional career, most notably as Bacchus, god of wine in Orpheus. ( also Carmen, Calamity Jane & Carousel).

The next Op Soc social function is our Annual Dinner Dance, to be held this year at Peppone's at Bowenhurst Golf Club (just off the Farnham to Odiham road). It is to be held on Saturday 12th May, 7.30 pm for 8.00 pm, and the menu looks to be particularly appetising with a strong Italian influence. The cost is £32 each, which is £1 less than last year, and will include an introductory drink to boot!!

A meeting will be held at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church Hall, Bowenhurst Road, Church Crookham, Fleet, Hampshire on Tuesday 10th April starting at 7.30 pm (please note the earlier start) when Sue will talk through the characters and audition pieces. At 8.15 pm Paul will then go through the music auditions.
On Thursday 12th April at 8.00pm Joyce will be setting the dancing auditions.
The cast auditions will take place at 2.00 pm Sunday 15th April at the above venue.

At the quarterly meeting held last night (29/01/07) the Management Committee decided that it was impractical to proceed with preparations for "Gypsy" for our March 2008 Production. Instead we shall be putting on a production of "The King And I".

REVISED DATE 10th FEB!....I am afraid that there has had to be a change of plan for the Op Soc line dancing social event. Fleet football club double booked our evening and, as a result, we have had to delay it by one week to Saturday 10 February. I hope that you are still able to come, although I know that it now intrudes on half term and some people are off skiing. It should be a good evening - a line dancing teacher has been especially engaged, and appropriate food will be laid on at the interval to keep your energy levels up. The cost is £8 and Roger is taking names (otherwise let any member of the social committee know).

Folks Happy New Year one and all! The next Op Soc Social function will be a Line Dancing evening, to be held once again at Fleet football club. We have an experienced 'caller' coming along to put us through our paces, so it should be an ideal opportunity to shed some of those extra pounds that have amazingly appeared over the last few days. The date is Saturday, 10 February, and further details will follow shortly. We hope to see you there. Ron

A reminder of the Op Soc Christmas 'bash' at Charlotte and Ron's house on Saturday 16 December at 8.00 pm. Dress up posh if you like, but don't be deterred if you don't want to. There will be lots of interesting eats and drinks, and it should be a great opportunity to get into the festive spirit, all for the princely sum of a fiver. Charlotte and Ron's house is situated at 7 Badger Way, Ewshot, which you can't really miss off the top of Beacon Hill going from Crookham cross roads in the direction of Farnham. Please let Ron know if you would like to come, so we can gauge numbers.

A reminder also that the Christmas raffle will be held at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday 19 December, following a short rehearsal, at our rehearsal room at holy Trinity Church, Fleet. It's an ideal opportunity to swap Christmas cards, and share a glass of wine and a mince pie. We look forward to seeing you there also.

The Society's oldest Life Member, Beryl Candy, reaches the age of 90 on Tuesday, 21st November. For those who do not know her well, she was Secretary for many years and married the Society's then Treasurer, Jack Candy in 1957. She is an individual NODA member, knows more about our Society than anyone and still attends the AGM and occasional social event.

The OPSOC Beer & Skittles event was a great success, and very well attended. "Team Spades" won the main event, with our illustrious director Sue Sampson taking the individual award in the "killer" competition (in rather dubious circumstances).

Ryan Jack Nisbet : Ryan was born on 4th October (the day after my birthday) at 9.28am (very civilised) and he weighed 7lbs 31/2oz.  Everyone says he’s the spitting image of Stuart and I tend to agree with them.

Marcus Young : After 14 hours of labour Susannah safely delivered our beautiful son, 8lbs 10ozs, at 1.29pm on Sunday 30th April and we are both absolutely over the moon.
