"Don’t Stop the Music", our hugely popular 2015 production, received a particularly enthusiastic response from our audiences. The sequel, "Don’t Stop the Music 2: from stage to screen", offered a new, exciting and diverse programme with the definite feel good factor that will appeal to all generations. Our talented cast performed an array of show-stopping hits from some of the world’s best-loved musicals as well as bringing to life some of our favourite songs from the movies.

The packed programme surprised and delighted the audience. Act 1 took a nostalgic tour of some of the greatest Broadway shows, from the wonderful tunes of Gershwin and the choreographic delights of Fosse to more current shows with "The Book of Mormon", "Avenue Q" and the multi-award-winning musical, "Miss Saigon". Act 2 paid homage to great movie tunes from the likes of James Bond, "The Bodyguard" and "Moulin Rouge" to the epic "Les Misérables".

A magical evening of fabulous song and dance, not to be forgotten!

Bringing the Show to Life....

Wow, what a journey!! and one for which the seed was sown at the end of our first “Don’t Stop the Music” in 2015 and which began in earnest almost two years ago!

As a musical theatre group, our first show celebrated the best song and dance from the West End and Broadway and was a huge success, not only in terms of audience support, attendance and feedback but also for our cast - an opportunity to be involved in numbers from shows we wouldn’t always get the opportunity to stage: “West Side Story”, “Jersey Boys”, “Les Misérables”, “Mama Mia” ….and many more.

Everyone said “can we do it again?? Let’s do it again!!” ….and so our journey began. Now a little more aware of the enormity of putting this type of show together, we chose our Production Team in June 2016 ….and we are not exaggerating to say they’ve literally been living together ever since! Sticking to a winning formula, we persuaded Charlotte Walker (our Director), Graham Hix and Paul Tickner (our 2 Musical Directors) to do it all again!! This time we put in place a Choreographic Director, Sue Canfield and Sue called in the best choreographers she has ever worked with to make sure we wowed the audience with our dance routines. And we were ready to begin…

Charlotte was keen to do something different this time. Winning formula aside, we pride ourselves as a Company on being innovative. Not many groups for example would swing from “Chorus Line” to “Hairspray”, “The Full Monty” to “Jesus Christ Superstar”, or “Made in Dagenham” to “Evita”!

So, Charlotte’s idea was to not only show off our musical theatre heritage but launch into film music too! And that would not only include filmed musicals (“Moulin Rouge” as an example) but some of the best film music per se ….and so our new title “Don’t Stop the Music: from Stage to Screen” was born.

And that’s when the first huge task started. What exactly were we going to choose to do? We were overwhelmed by choice and had a world of music to choose from. The Production Team invited everyone in the Company to choose their favourite pieces and tell us why they thought they would be the right choices for our show .…and between us we listened to every single one of them! We all had our own ideas too of course, and with different tastes and visions of how our new show might look and sound we spent countless hours debating, proposing, listening, even arguing. The one thing we knew is that we all wanted to put on the best show we possibly could, one that would please our members on-stage and delight our audiences too! Charlotte also had to ensure that the flow worked - fast to slow, modern to traditional, fun to romance, chorus to solo, dance spectacular to singing spectacular ….and let’s not forget we had to work out if people would have time to change and be ready for their next number too!

Finally, we all agreed and after several weeks preparing music, medleys and audition pieces, last October, we were at last ready to present the show format to the Company, run a whole weekend of auditions and get this show on the road!

The enthusiasm and commitment from our members from the beginning of our 6-month rehearsal period right up to the show has just blown us away. We have 57 cast members, including 8 youngsters and to say this has been a demanding rehearsal commitment for all is an understatement but everyone has just risen to the challenge! At one point, Sue offered to run extra dance practice for anyone who would like it from 7-8pm on Thursdays (before our normal 8-10pm session). Expecting the 1 person who had requested it to attend, she was overwhelmed when she saw half the cast waiting to get in! & this has happened week after week after week! Meanwhile, Graham and Paul, our two Musical Directors, have worked tirelessly putting medleys together, preparing music, both for the cast and the orchestra, laying down harmony tracks and running singing rehearsals!

We have absolutely done our best to give our audiences a huge variety in the numbers we present to you. We pay homage to the traditional musicals of Broadway, but then spring up to date with such shows as “Book of Mormon”, and “That Man”, a 2016 Musical based on the music of award-winning recording artist Caro Emerald. In Act 2, how could we possibly resist a Bond section? And then we surprise you with songs such as “A Thousand Years” from the film “Twilight” and “Jai Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire”. A favourite of many in the cast is “Ain’t No Sunshine” (Bill Withers) played of course in the film “Notting Hill” ….and there was no debate that we would end on one of the best musicals of all time (conveniently filmed recently!) - “Les Misérables”!

We have become passionate about our show - it’s been a journey but more than that, it’s become our baby! And we hope with all our hearts that we entertain you and you love it as much as we do. Thank you so much for coming and supporting us all. Please, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
